The new V class is truly an Executive vehicle so luxury add-ons are common place on these cars. On this one we were asked to add mains powered sockets for charging laptops etc. We used black nickel face plates with USB sockets built in, to give a classy appearance and offer maximum connectivity. A powerful invertor was mounted under the front seat to feed the sockets which draws its power directly from the car battery. (Best used only when the engine is running due to heavy consumption). To control the device a small remote control panel is mounted into the centre console near to the Mercedes 12Volt and USB connection points.

We have since returned to this vehicle to add In-Car Wi-Fi. This enables passengers to connect their portable devices and laptop to a wireless network generated within the vehicle. This connects via the specific roof mounted antenna to the 4G mobile phone network and gives a stable and fast connection to the internet. By using this device a much faster, more reliable connection can be established than using inbuilt 4G phones etc. This is because more power is available and a bigger, higher aerial without restrictions is able to ‘see’ the network more clearly.
